That changed this year. The venue now has a name residents can put on a calendar, a list of restaurants they can look up, and a general manager job posting that describes exactly who it's built to serve.
The project is called The Nest, and for anyone living in Calesa Township, the shift from "coming eventually" to "opening November 21" is the story worth paying attention to, not the amenity list itself. Amenity lists have circulated since the community's earliest marketing. What's new is the evidence that this one is actually landing.
The Announcement That Finally Comes With a Date
Ocala-News.com first reported on The Nest in April 2025, when the only public information was a waiver request filed with the Marion County Development Review Committee. At that stage, the plans described a biergarten, an outdoor amphitheater, a dog park, and a food truck village in the future tense. No restaurant names. No opening date. Just a site plan and a stage footprint of nearly 1,900 square feet with grass seating built to hold close to 2,000 guests.
By August 2026, the coverage had changed shape. Ocala-News.com reported that construction was moving quickly, with structural frames for the buildings largely erected and Calesa sharing regular progress updates on social media. The report also named, for the first time, the restaurant concepts that would occupy the space, including Cow Bird Kitchen, which had already been built out on site.
The clearest sign that this is no longer a someday project showed up somewhere residents wouldn't normally look: a job listing. On Top of the World Communities, the developer behind Calesa, posted an opening for a General Manager to run The Nest's day-to-day operations, reporting to a Managing Director of Hospitality and Restaurants and overseeing a Director of Restaurants, a Director of Special Events, and a Facilities Supervisor. The posting describes the venue's intended audience plainly: Calesa families, visitors to the neighboring FAST swim complex, and residents of On Top of the World and Stone Creek. That's not language you write for a project still waiting on permits. That's language you write when you're staffing a building that's about to open.
And now there's an actual date. The Nest's own site lists a Grand Opening event for Saturday, November 21, with a Christmas Eve gathering already on the calendar for December 24.
What Actually Opens November 21
The physical footprint matches what's been described in county filings since last year: an outdoor amphitheater built for touring acts and local performers, a beer garden and taproom, a dog park, a playground, sand volleyball, and pickleball courts. What's new is the dining lineup, and it's more specific than a typical clubhouse restaurant rotation.
Anchoring the site is Cow Bird Kitchen, a full-service restaurant named for a sight familiar to anyone who's driven past Marion County pastureland: cattle egrets trailing grazing cattle, known locally as cowbirds. The menu leans into that ranching heritage, with smoke worked through much of the food, not because it's a barbecue restaurant, but as a nod to the ranch-house table where the workday ended with a shared meal.
Around that anchor sits The Faregrounds, an open-air food hall built around five separate quick-service kitchens:

Why the Site Sits Across From the Pool, Not Off the Highway
Location decisions like this usually reveal more about intended daily use than any press release does. The Nest sits on parcels roughly 0.7 miles southwest of SW 60th Avenue and SW 38th Street, directly neighboring the Florida Aquatics Swimming and Training facility and Ina A. Colen Academy, the K-8 charter school inside Calesa Township.
That placement isn't incidental. FAST already draws swim families from across Marion County for training and competition, not just Calesa residents. Ina Colen Academy brings a daily rhythm of school drop-off and pickup. Put a restaurant hub, a coffee shop, and a dog park inside that same half-mile radius, and you've built a spot where a swim practice, a school pickup, and a coffee run can happen without a second stop across town. The general manager posting's description of the venue serving Calesa families alongside FAST visitors and residents from OTOW and Stone Creek only makes sense if the site is positioned to catch foot traffic that's already there for other reasons, not traffic that has to be lured in from SR 200.
That's a different bet than the one most new-build communities in southwest Ocala make with their amenity centers, which tend to sit deep inside the neighborhood, built for residents only. The Nest is designed to be a shared destination from day one.
